It has become an annual event at Perez, when the FUTP 60 Perez Wellness Team students prepare posters and presentations and venture over to the Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third grade classrooms. They present what they have researched and learned to the children on the topics of Nutrition, 60 minutes of MVPA daily, sleep, hydration, fitness, hygiene and other health topics. They are always quite nervous beforehand, and usually relieved and proud afterwards. They have worked hard to be leaders here at Perez!
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Every Tuesday Morning from 7-8 am, we have a team of 22 6,7 and 8th graders working to make Perez a healthier school. This is our Perez FUTP 60 Student Wellness team. The PE teacher, 3rd grade teacher and Parent/Community member are also in the meetings!
How did you accomplish your goals?
Lots of hard work, collaboration, research and proposals to the principal. Meeting every Tuesday morning gives us ample time to be on the same page and make healthier changes at Perez.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
More students report that they are going to bed earlier, showering daily, eating breakfast daily, limiting junk food, and trying to get more than 60 minutes of physical activity each and every day. They are reporting in the PE and Health classes!
