Physical Activity Participation

Through the Fuel Up to Play 60 grant, we were able to order more sports equipment for recess time. We encourage students to be physically active at recess and offer our students a variety of options. We have soccer balls, basketballs, volleyballs, footballs, 4 square balls, a tether ball, frisbees, and hacky sacks. We also offer open gym every Tuesday and Thursday before school.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Our goal was to have physical activity options for all students and have multiple balls so that every one could play. We purchased the equipment and encouraged students to play with the new balls at recess and they did.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan on making this Play last for this school year and beyond by keeping the balls in a safe place and maintaining them so that we will have them for a while for all the students to enjoy them. We also have physical activity options for students on days when we have to have recess indoors due to the weather.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

After adding the sports equipment to our recess bin, we have noticed that more students engage in physical activity at recess. One improvement that we have seen is that students who normally do not interact with one another will come together and play sports together at recess. We enjoy watching the students get their physical activity minutes in while having fun and working on their teambuilding skills.
