Physical Activity In The Butler Classroom

Emmanuel Ruiz,   Butler Elementary School
At Butler Elementary, teachers and students have been participating in Brain Breaks at school. Many use different forums to do this such as "Go Noodle", which has been a huge success. They have enjoyed the ability to get up, which reduces fatigue, helps focus students, and increases blood flow. Now teachers are seeing students be more engaged, focused, and concentrating better. Students are being on-task more and utilizing their time thanks to these physical activities in the classroom. Teachers are seeing positive benefits to this movement.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students have a desire to move more during the day, which can positively affect their academics! Students are becoming more interested in healthy food choices and increased MVPA. There is an increase in positive behaviors when classroom physical activities are incorporated.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Continue to offer "Go Noodle" for regular classroom physical activity along with student created fitness and health videos via Green Screen Room for all school access. Teachers have really enjoyed it and would commit to doing this in the future.
