Access to Healthy Foods

For the last several years, Jackson has teamed up with our local grocery store and their registered dietitian for a program called "Pick a Better Snack". Throughout the school year, the dietitian comes in to all of the K-2 classrooms and introduces healthy fruits and vegetables to the students to choose as an alternative snack, instead of picking things that may not be so healthy. The students also learn about healthy eating and living a healthy lifestyle in general. The program is awesome because the majority of our students come from low income families, and have never had the opportunity to try several of the fruits and vegetables that are offered through the program. This is also an amazing way to implement healthy eating and living habits into our children!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

This Play has been so successful that we continue to do it from year to year with our students. The students look forward to Pick a Better Snack and are excited to try new fruits and vegetables each time the dietitian comes. This is definitely a program that will be continued into next year.
