We started the 100 Mile Club partway through the year last year. We had walking club only three days a week and we had one student reach 70 miles. This year, we are starting our 100 Mile Club right away and we have also started having the walking club five days a week. Our students were able to pick up right where we left off last year. They remembered how to use the pedometers and how to record their scores. Each month, we update the scores and students love to see their bar on a bar graph grow! We have about 1/3 of our students participating each morning.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students are in charge of checking off the students in their class that are here each morning. The adults in our building have volunteered to come before their contract hours to help supervise.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I think students are more fit. They also seem calmer as they are ready to start their day.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We are able to self-sustain this goal by getting outside help to provide prizes each month for students who had the most steps and drawing students' names for filling up an attendance card.
