Pinewood Patriots' Food Drive

Three 5th graders at Pinewood Elementary saw a need in the community and decided to do something about it. Together, they called the Arkansas Food Bank and planned a food drive to help those in need in their community. These leaders made a poster to hang in the hallway, collected boxes for each classroom, and made morning announcements encouraging everyone to bring in food.

How did you accomplish your goals?

The three 5th grade students made a poster to hang in the hallway, made morning announcements to encourage everyone to bring food, and a note was sent home to inform parents of the food drive.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Parents and students brought in sacks and boxes full of canned food for the food drive. Everyone was eager to help out.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

In the beginning, food collection was slow. The P.E. teacher decided to reward the class with the most food collected with a free choice P.E. day. This was all the encouragement the students needed.
