Our middle school had a competition among the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to see who could raise the most money for area pantries to purchase milk for needy families. I shared a video with the school talking about the need for milk and directed them to the Great American Milk drive website for more information. Students were given empty milk pints to collect change and donate toward their class' total. Each grade had one week to compete. I was amazed at the level of participation and thrilled to find our students collected over $2000. We are interested in hosting a milk drive campaign yearly and hoping interested students will help continue to educate the entire student body on the benefits of milk and helping our community make sure all our children get the milk they need to be healthy. We have a long-term goal of changing legislation to allow unopened milk in the schools to be donated to area pantries.
