Play Wednesdays

The FUTP 60 team planned activities once a month during resource time, for students to come to the gym and play some organized games. Activities thus far have included dodgeball, basketball and Human Hungry Hippos.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The FUTP 60 planning team broke into grade level groups to plan activities each month. The seniors took the lead and mentored the younger students as they made their plans. They had to work with advisors and PE teachers to plan activities, sign out the gym, assemble needed equipment, set up for the games and implement the activity with participating students.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Since this was a new idea, the FUTP 60 team had to work hard to promote the activity sessions. They wrote PA announcements, made posters and personally invited students to participate.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Our goal was to get at least 30 kids to participate in each session. So far we have had smaller groups, but each time we do it, more kids sign up. We are hoping to keep the groups growing till the end of the school year.
