Playing for a Good Cause

We had a basketball tournament between students and staff to get donations for the American Heart Association. All stakeholders in the school, students, and member of the community were involved.

How did you accomplish your goals?

The advisers began by engaging the interest of the students. We picked an activity that would get students to participate. Students then were given instructions on how to raise funds in order to participate. Students raised a record amount of money for the American Heart Association, and we also had a record number of students and staff participate in the basketball tournament.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students have learned about heart health. There is also a noticeable increase in the amount of respect students have for teachers that participated.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

All students and adults worked together to raise money for a good cause and participate in physical activity.
