Promotional Posters

At the school I work in, we offer breakfast to all of our students each morning. The food choices are healthy, so we needed a way to get people excited about breakfast. We came up with the idea of my 5th graders making promotional posters about why people should eat breakfast. I gave them no background information. They were responsible for making the poster all on their own and gathering their own information. What my students turned in blew me away. The posters were creative, colorful, informational, and well designed. One student even put in quotes from teachers and other classmates, which I thought was really impressive. Once they were completed, I hung the posters up around the school, and the feedback from everyone who saw them was positive. I am very proud of my 5th graders for what they did and for encouraging our school to eat healthy!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students and adults worked together to create the plan of the promotional posters. The students were responsible for creating them, but I also had some staff members judge the posters, with the top choices receiving some prizes.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The idea of the posters was to explain to our students why breakfast is important, so hopefully that message was received and they continue to eat breakfast during the summer months and on weekends.
