PS 11 Martin Luther King Jr (Jersey City NJ) has had back to back years of having one of our students selected to be a NJ State Ambassador for the Fuel Up To Play 60 Program.
Students in Grades 4-8 have accepted challenges on the website to do an at-home Project grade in their PE classes- and last year the students totaled over 12,000 challenges. We also had a number of students become school Student Ambassadors through their hard work.
The students who were selected to be the NJ state representatives also did extra work and submitted an essay on their behalf, which allowed them to attend the FUTP 60 Summit in Cleveland this past summer.
Upon returning to school in September, they couldn't wait to tell me about their experience!
What improvements have you seen at your school?
Just about all of our students in Grade 4-8 now participate in the challenge section on the website, and they look forward to doing them !
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Both students and staff work together by having FUTP 60 meetings to discuss ways to help our school become healthier, and also to have fun events at the school to reinforce the program.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
Since we have had back-to-back student winners for NJ, we want to keep moving forward and have more students being able to attend the Summit.
