Our school implemented Ramp Up for Recess. Student captains chose games that would interest their peers, determined the equipment needed for each game, and ran the games. Students are excited to participate at recess and we have seen great positive behavior changes thanks to Ramp Up for Recess!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The challenge our students had was deciding which games would run well at recess with the equipment our school has available. Our games include capture the flag, lightning, mat ball, and tag games, which incorporate some extra running.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Classes can earn two points each day. Prior to Ramp Up for Recess, classes were scoring one point and occasionally zero points. Since launching Ramp Up for Recess, classes have been earning all points. Behaviors have improved since the start of the year.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Recess games will continue and captains will change up the games as the year goes on. Games will also improve with new equipment to be used at recess during these organized games. This will keep it fresh and exciting for their peers.
