Ready for Recess

Physical Activity Participation

Students have been provided with recess equipment to encourage more physical activity during recess. Students were excited to organize games of soccer, basketball, and volleyball now that they have the equipment necessary to play. Students that preferred a different type of physical activity enjoyed being able to jump rope either as an individual or as a group with the long and short ropes provided. Along with jump ropes, students have the choice of a racket game and skip-its to get moving during their recess time.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Reviewed PE equipment inventory, surveyed students' interests, and selected appropriate equipment to include in the recess bin.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Update equipment as needed, encourage students to try new equipment in the bin during classes, remind classroom teachers to utilize equipment during their recess time.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

More students are engaged in structured physical activities during recess along with experiences higher levels of MVPA during recess.
