Recess Leader Training
Mr. Sam from the Pima County Health Department came to our school to give our SWAT a training on recess. This was a great leadership training that gave our SWAT ideas to use at recess with their classmates. They are now empowered to facilitate games during recess and use the equipment from our recess cart.

How did you accomplish your goals?

I was able to work with our local health department to schedule a training for our SWAT team. Our school has been working with the health department to improve our schools' wellness.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I plan to next work with the health department to have a training for our staff to empower them during recess. I want them to get new ideas that they can use during recess. I also plan to have the health department come back again next year to give the training to staff and students again.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

After the training, our SWAT was very excited to take what they learned back to their classroom. I also encouraged them to buddy up with another lower grade classroom to teach them a few new recess games. The SWAT members are excited to work with the monitors to help facilitate lunch recess. It gives the monitors more time to observe and the SWAT members the opportunity to set up stations at recess.
