Physical Activity Participation

This year our goal was make recess more exciting. We wanted to give more options to our students to choose from during their free time. Since PE's ultimate goal is leading students to a lifestyle of being active, no matter what the activity is, we thought giving the students more options of activities to play would be best.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students and adults worked together as a team in various ways. One prime example was ramping up recess. In the past we've had a difficult time keeping our equipment in decent shape, having it treated properly, and returned after use. This always gave us a reservation on putting out "our" equipment for classes to use. Our team of students came up with the idea of having an "equipment manager" in each class whose job was to be sure everything was returned.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

One major improvement we've seen at our school is the fact that students enjoy recess more than ever. We have given more options for them to choose from beyond the basic tag, playground, or 4 square that is available. Students love the walking/jogging path for exercise and being social.
