Access to Healthy Foods

My 6th grade students used an app called Remind to send me pictures of when they were eating healthier, controlling portion sizes, and making good decisions on drinking water over juice. They enjoyed sharing pictures and receiving a message of encouragement from me as their PE teacher.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

I will re-announce the goal in the new year hoping that students will make a nutritional resolution! Students use their phones all the time - so it's a great app for them to use to share their success outside of school.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I am in the lunch room with the students, and we talk about their lunch plate, whether it has all five portions or what they are missing out on. They love to talk during lunch!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

A lot of the students didn't bother to download the app, so I plan to send home instructions to parents so they can try again.
