Rise to SHINE Breakfast
February is a busy month for the Wellington Wildcat Jump Rope Team! With multiple practices and performances, we wanted to ensure that our 55 athletes were fueling their bodies with all the right nutrients for physical activity. Our Fuel Up to Play 60 leaders decided to host a “Rise to SHINE Breakfast” before school for the entire Jump Rope Team. We started by soliciting donations through “Sign-Up Genius.” Parents graciously donated low-fat chocolate milk, water, and Yoplait Go Gurt . The event was planned for February 27th, and flyers and e-mails were sent out inviting students to attend. That morning the coaches set up two tables in the gym filled with various healthy food options for students to enjoy. Before heading off to class, we talked to the team about the importance of hydrating our bodies before and after exercise. We also stressed the necessity of choosing foods that provide plenty of vitamins and nutrients. The event was a huge success! Please see attached photos.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Our team decided to solicit donations through Sign-Up Genius asking parents to donate Healthy Breakfast foods such as low-fat chocolate milk, Yoplait Go Gurt, water, etc... We created flyers and e-mails promoting the event and inviting students to attend.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Coaches facilitated the meeting by giving students ideas and suggestions on Fuel Up to Play 60 plays for our school to promote.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The Rise to SHINE Breakfast was a huge success! It was easy to implement and definitely something we can continue for years to come! It simply took willingness from all stakeholders to make it happen. Coaches, student athletes, and parents were all involved and all contributed to the success of the event.
