Roosevelt Runners Ramp Up!

Our students completed 4 marathons over the course of the 2016-2017 school year. We had 100 students participate in the Marathon kids running program. All students could run in the morning at school, during school, after school, at home and during our Community sponsored runs. They are all getting so fast and reaching their personal individual goals.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Our students loved he Marathon Kids tip sheets and scheduled workouts. We had each student set their mile, 3 mile and target completion of 4 marathons on date prior to all our training. When they reached a goal they were given incentives like t- shirts, water bottles, pedometers, shoe laces etc.... All the 100 students have had the opportunity to set a goal and reach a goal!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We are working to provide students a summer running list of races myself or our sponsoring parents will be attending to keep the program going. We will start it up again at school beginning in August. We are working to secure more community sponsors to provide incentives, because we will not have the grant money.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We see more students running laps at RAMP time and the teachers are willing to log their laps, so that each student gets credit for their in-school work. We have faster students based on our mile run times. We have a waiting list for running club because we could only take 100
