Rose Haggar Jump Rope Contest and Wellness Fair

We had a jump rope contest prior to our Annual Wellness Fair and we had approximately 25 students from each grade level. First and second grade students jumped rope to music until there were only four students left jumping. Those four students won a jump rope purchased by Healthy Zone School funds! The older students had to do a simple routine, and we had 25 students from third, fourth and fifth grade at different times do their routine! The winners received jump ropes purchased with HZS funds! The Jump Rope competition was followed by our 8th Annual Wellness Fair! We had over 475 students and their families and over 40 vendors - from Dallas Martial Arts, Jamba Juice, JoAnn's Zumba for Kids, and Healthy Restaurants to Dallas Fire and Police showing kids safety tips! This was the best Wellness Fair we have ever had! We had to turn vendors away, because we simply don't have room for them!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We will continue with our jump rope competitions and our Wellness Fairs and hopefully will improve each year! We had our vendors and community members tell us this year was the best! We are excited to be able to include Fuel Up to Play 60 kids with help in setting up, advertising for the Fair, and helping kids get involved in school activities. This was our first year as a FUTP60 school. We will continue to strive to get better.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We see some kids making better food choices and trying harder on their Fitnessgram testing! More parents are getting involved as a result of their kids making better choices.
