Topics:
We started a Running/Walking Club for the 5th and 6th graders at our school this year. All the students loved it and were able to track their mileage and see their progress. We've already done two 5K's with over 15 kids participating (and two dogs)! Students run before school and at home. Since school started in August, some have already run the distance of 3 full marathons. We are encouraging them not only at school but at home as well, to Fuel Up healthy and Play 60!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We had challenges of weather, especially in the colder months. We overcame this challenge by bringing the kids inside and doing different agility running drills indoors.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We have mileage tracking sheets that the students can complete on their own at home. We will also participate in even more 5K's throughout the rest of the school year. Some kids will continue by participating in track next year.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We honestly have seen such an inner desire for running created in these students. They regularly share how far and how fast their last runs were. They have developed a love for running that will last a lifetime.
