Salsa and Pesto for 2nd, 3rd and 4th Graders in Granville, OH

Middle School FUTP 60 and FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) demonstrated how to make pesto and pasta from Granville Elementary Garden vegetables sponsored by FUTP 60 grant last year.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

We contacted the teachers and principals of the elementary and intermediate school and scheduled the demonstrations and the Granville Ex. School District Food Service director helped make salsa and supply tortilla chips for the tasting with the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th graders at 2 schools.

How did you accomplish your goals?

Middle school students did the food demonstrations of salsa and pesto and served the foods to the elementary and intermediate school students who loved them and had 2nds and 3rds of the food from vegetables from the garden plots they grew.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan to continue the gardens and expand the foods we demonstrate and have the younger children taste.
