Sandwich Bar

Access to Healthy Foods

This school year we changed the options for our a la carte menu in order to promote healthier food options for our students who are interested in hot lunch. Instead of a daily option for cheeseburgers, chicken burgers, pizza, and other not so healthy meal options, we now serve several different options of sandwiches. Students and staff may choose a type of bread ranging from wraps, bulky rolls, and regular sandwich bread to a variety of meats and vegetables to include in their sandwich. One may also choose to make a salad instead, or to just go without the bread; the options are endless. Overall this year our numbers show that on most days, students would rather have a sandwich for lunch instead of the hot lunch option.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We gave the students a survey shortly after we implemented the sandwich bar that asked how they like the new sandwich bar option and what they would like to see in the future for options for food and improvements. We will be sending another survey out towards the end of the year with the same questions to see what change has been made. This will provide us ideas to keep students choosing healthy options for lunch and involve them in the menu options.
