SC Cheetahs LOVE Active Recess Zones
Our school has done many amazing things these past couple of years and we couldn’t have done it without the help of FUTP 60. One of the big changes has been active recess and the students love it. All kinder through fifth grade students have the option to play with all of the different zones that are set up during recess. The zones we currently have are: basketball, four square, jump rope and skip its, football (3rd-5th can use flags with monitor supervision), soccer and frisbee. By putting these zones out, we have noticed many changes. Student behavior has improved, students are playing with other students that they usually don’t hang out with and we see more students being active. All of the equipment is placed in individual bags and are placed in their zone. Every quarter, we pick a group of 5th grade students to gather the equipment bags and take them into my office before lunch. This has been very successful and we couldn’t have done it without FUTP 60 resources and funds!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

With the help of all of the students and monitors, we will make sure that all of the equipment is being used correctly. By doing this, the students will continue to use the equipment during recess in the years to come. Students are taught how to use the equipment properly and understand that if it isn't being used correctly, they can lose their privilege to use it.
