SC Cheetahs Walk to School
Our school implemented Walk to School Wednesday's last year once a month. It has been a huge success and the students really seem to like it as well as the parents. The way it works is we meet at a certain spot and the parents drop off their children there as well as the buses dropping off riders. Once the first bus gets there, two teachers take lead and start walking with that group of students and the students that were dropped off as well. Other staff members stay behind and wait for the next buses. Some parents walk with their children as well. The walk is approximately 15 minutes long and we try to do this once a month on a Wednesday. During P.E. class students discuss why they think it is important to exercise before they go into their class.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The main challenge we faced was finding a designated area for our students to meet. Our parent liaison asked two churches near our school and they both said no due to liability concerns. What we did was have buses drop off students as we went and parents as well. It worked out fine but when we were planning it that was our main concern.
