School Garden Grows

We have a school garden that the 4th grade class is in charge of. They tie it into the curriculum that the 4th grade studies. They work on it during their lunch period outside. During class time they grow starts and plan what fruits and vegetables to put in it. Our lunch room staff serves the produce when it is ready to the student population. We received money from the Idaho Dairy Council to help with supplies. Our garden has been in existence since 2010. Part of our Play was to serve smoothies with local blueberries.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We have been growing a school garden since 2010. We plan on keeping it every year and using the produce in our cafeteria. Our 4th grade teachers head this up every year with our PE teacher. The students plan the garden, grow the starts and plant it. We also have support from our Master gardener association.
