Our Middle School had one of the lowest participation percentages for breakfast and the highest for lunch. Speaking with the principal, we also found that the students test scores reflected poorly. We decided to start offering a second chance breakfast grab and go during the students first morning break at 9:15am. Since we implemented this, we found the participation percent increase for breakfast and that the students seem to be improving academically as well.
How did you accomplish your goals?
We meet with the principal and teachers to discuss a way to increase breakfast participation. They were on board with letting the students have a second chance to eat breakfast and we started the second chance grab and go breakfast table.
What improvements have you seen at your school?
We found that the students seem to be more alert and are improving academically since we started the second chance breakfast.
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
By staying in communication with the principal and teachers, as well as keeping up with the participation percentages and academic improvements to, show that the students need a second chance to get the most important meal of the day.
