Silly Socks Running Club

We kicked off the fall of 2015 with the "Silly Socks Running Club." We mapped out a 1/4 mile track on the back playground. It was marked off with cones. The club meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for one hour before school starts. We stretch and do a lesson on running, healthy eating, or fitness principles. The students then have 30 minutes to run or walk. Adults mark their "running foot" cards for each lap they completed. The students add up how much they run at the end of each session. We have a poster to track their mileage. We also have a map where we track how far the team is traveling together as a club. Our goal is from Kansas City to Seattle.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students and adults both use the marked track. Adults mark the student cards as they finish the laps.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We have the track marked and a plan down so we will just continue at the beginning of each school year. We will send information about the club to all students, teachers, and parents, and anyone that wants to sign up can.
