Silver Spoon Award at Highland Park Elementary

Lori Danella,   Highland Park Elementary School
The Power Behind the Play
Silver Spoon Award at Highland Park Elementary
We put our thinking caps on and came up with an award we can give to our students during lunch time. We came up with the Silver Spoon Award. Students, teachers, cafeteria staff, etc. nominate a student that promotes FUTP 60, our breakfast and lunch program and does good deeds during our meal periods. The staff don crazy hats, bang on pots and pans and announce the winner during lunchtime. The winner is awarded a certificate and a large silver spoon with ribbons on it. They are also mentioned in the school newsletter.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We will continue to participate in FUTP 60 and will always be serving breakfast and lunch so we will carry on this tradition from year to year.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The staff and students have so much fun and it has increased interest in our Plays for FUTP 60 and also they are more aware of their surroundings by keeping trash picked up off the floor, reminding others to not talk too loudly and they are being more respectful of each other.
