Sixth graders step up to walking challenge!

Sixth graders at Brooks Center for STEM and the Arts challenged the 7th and 8th graders to see which grade could collectively walk the longest distance in one month. The students made posters to promote the challenge. Staff supervised and monitored progress, and administration gave a free dress-down day to the winning grade! The miles were logged during lunch-time recess, where walking on the track is one of four daily activities from which students can choose.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We like the idea of repeating the month-long challenge next year, perhaps, "Walktoberfest!" If students get in the habit of walking at recess, they may continue it throughout the year. Maybe we'll even try "Skiptember Challenge" or "MARCHing Madness!"
