Smooth and Healthy Living

The students and teachers at Tilton Elementary School are trying to promote healthy eating and increased physical activities, in line with the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. The Student Leadership Team got together with Mr. Boatwright, the Program Advisor, and decided to do a Smoothies Day. With smoothies, you can get your dairy, fruits, and vegetables all at the same time. The lunchroom staff worked with the students to prepare for the smoothies and to help them make the smoothies. The students passed out the smoothies to the different classrooms. Everyone loved Smoothie Day. We gave everyone an example and a sample of how we can be healthy with good tasting, fun foods, and drinks. The Student Leadership Team is thinking of other ways we can help our school get in the habit of eating healthy all the time.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students and adults worked together by, first of all, planning the Smoothies Day. The lunchroom staff showed the students how to make the smoothies. The students made the smoothies and passed them out.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goals by allowing everyone to try the smoothie. They discovered that eating/drinking your dairy, fruits, and vegetables is not only healthy but it can be fun and taste good, too!
