Smoothie Challenge

Jared Rathge,   Andrew Cooke Magnet Elem School
Recipe Contest

Recently Cooke’s NFL’s Fuel Up to Play 60 Club sponsored by Nurse Spires and Mr. Rathge hosted a smoothie recipe challenge. Students brought in their own recipes and Nurse Spires purchased all the ingredients. Over 15 recipes were entered into the contest. All the students in the club sampled all the recipes and voted on them. After voting we had our final four recipes. We then held another taste test, and this time we invited teachers and administrators. The students had a great time creating recipes and taste testing them as well. We are all looking forward to next year so we can do it again.

How did you accomplish your goals?

One of our main goals in our FUTP 60 club is to promote healthy eating. Leading up to our recipe challenge we tried to expose the students to different healthy options for breakfast lunch and dinner. And when we started getting the recipes turned in we started to notice that many of the recipes were very healthy. So by seeing that, the school nurse and I accomplished this goal.
