Access to Healthy Foods, Community Involvement, Physical Activity Participation
At our February PTG (Parent Teacher Group) meeting we had the smoothie bike. The bike has a blender on it and when students pedal the bike it mixes the ingredients. Students took turns blending the fresh fruit (strawberries, bananas and blueberries) and milk to make a delicious treat. We shared ideas on other ingredients we could use to make smoothies and the nutritional value they have.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
Students and adults worked together to decide on the fruits and amounts to add to the smoothies. We also discussed other ideas for smoothies to make next time.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
Some people in attendance are allergic to milk. So we had to make separate milk free smoothies for those people. Next time we can plan ahead and have some almond milk to add to the smoothies for those allergic to dairy.
