2018 Student Driven Success…
We teamed with our Wellness Council, Health Class and Agriculture Class to feature a smoothie tasting station during our annual school wide AG Day. We cleared our planting beds, prepared the soil, and then planted ingredients to use in our smoothies. We called it “Dirt to Delicious”. Our students took care of the planting beds all through the spring semester. We harvested the kale, spinach, basil, and got strawberries from a local farmer the night before. Then we visited a local Hall County Creamery, Mountain Fresh Creamery and they donated fresh whole milk to our plan to prepare for our smoothie day. On the Friday of AG Day, we served approximately 1800 taste test of two different recipes with our ingredients. The Student Wellness Council did the recipes, mixing, and serving. The students loved the day, gave us great feedback and they were so excited that our ingredients were local.
It was a great cross curriculum day between our class studies.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
We gathered students and teachers across our curriculum and found the common goal they would all be willing to work on, to improve our Ag Day Plan. Our Wellness Council needed a nutritious Fuel Up to Play 60 Play for the records and we saw the opportunity to all come together and make a plan. We had to speak with some community farmers to gather a few ingredients and everyone seemed so willing to get on board. The day was a perfect success. We served smoothie tastings from 9 am until after 3 pm.
