Our Fuel Up to Play 60 team made fruit smoothies to share at lunch. These smoothies had skim milk, low-fat yogurt, and fresh fruit. The kids sucked them all right up!. We found that 5th and 6th grade students preferred the mixed berry, while the 7th and 8th grade students preferred the strawberry banana.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
The students came up with the idea and then we brainstormed together about flavors in order to create a shopping list.
How did you accomplish your goals?
Our goal was to share a recipe that included no added sugars, that students can make themselves at home, and that they would enjoy. We had students coming back and asking for more so we knew it was delicious. We also had so many students ask for the recipe that we sent it out to all the students!
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
We would like to offer more 'smart snack' choices for students in the future to show them that snacking doesn't have to include lots of sugar!
