Smoothies at Lunch

North Greenville Elementary students are getting the opportunity to try new healthy recipes at lunch with the Smoothies at Lunch program. Student leaders of the FUTP 60 program are helping choose recipes and distribute samples at lunch as a way to get students to try new foods they might not try otherwise. An example of a recent recipe was Blueberry Spinach Smoothies. These healthy treats included blueberries, spinach, strawberries, bananas, yogurt, and low-fat dairy milk. Students also got to take home recipe cards to share with their families. The FUTP 60 team hopes students can begin to promote these healthy recipes at home as well.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The FUTP60 student leaders and the FUTP60 program advisor worked with food service staff to come up with a recipe. The team did a trial run with the recipe to see how it turned out and then worked together to make enough samples for over 300 students!

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

Each student who samples the smoothies gets to take home a smoothie recipe card. It is the FUTP60 team's goal that students will use this recipe at home to make healthy choices with their families.
