Smoothies for All at Randels Elementary
Our Student Leadership team took turns making and delivering smoothies to all students and staff in our school on four separate occasions.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students worked together as a team to prepare the smoothies and deliver them to students and staff in their classrooms. The adult leader operated the smoothie machine and kept the students organized. Upon delivery, the students explained that the delicious, healthy smoothies were being provided because of our grant from Building Healthy Communities and Fuel Up to Play 60.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

Our first event was held on a half day of school. We quickly found that this was not a good plan as we have 652 students plus staff and needed more time to accomplish our goal. Our two smoothie machines kept overheating. We kept unplugging the machines and placing them into the refrigerator to help them cool quicker. We passed out the final smoothies only a couple of minutes before it was time to load the buses for dismissal. Our next events were held on full days of school.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The students have been very excited to try new smoothies. They look forward to the events. Our leadership team has impressed the teaching staff with their care, planning, and responsible behavior when delivering to the classrooms.
