Smoothies for Success

Lisa Theroux,   Clayville Elementary School
Access to Healthy Foods

We chose to add smoothies as a healthy lunch choice for our students. With the grant money that was received from Fuel Up to Play 60, we purchased a professional grade blender for making the smoothies. Nutrition services then ordered supplies needed to make 4 different smoothie options and part of our kick-off event was to offer smoothie tasting so that the students would have the opportunity to taste test the different smoothies and vote for their favorite flavor. We used the feedback to decided which flavors would be offered as a lunch option. The smoothies were a big hit and are now offered twice weekly as a lunch option in our elementary school.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

This plan was intended to last the school year from the very beginning. We purchased a blender so that nutrition services will have the equipment that they need and they were on board with offering our students these dairy-rich nutritional lunches.
