Soup and Salad Night

Team Hoover has come a long way in just a few months this year. Our club has grown from 1 student to 10 as we continue to develop. Over the past 3 months, we have hosted our first Parent Fitness Night in our building and have been part of 2 Snack Better Events at a local elementary school. This past week was our Snack Better Soup and Salad Event. At this event, members from our team along with their families, put together a healthy salad or soup that was later shared with over 30 people in attempt to encourage healthier snacking. At this event, all in attendance had a chance to sample 15 different salads/soups from many different heritages. Recipes of each snack were shared and lots of laughter was in the air. These events are a great way for us to get families involved in the concepts that we believe in, which are achieving a balanced, healthy lifestyle. At this event we also set the ground work to host our next event, which will be a student fitness night, in which we will attempt to reach 120 students from our school.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The students were in charge of getting their parents involved in the creation of their soup or salad recipe, and then actually making the recipe for more than 30 people to sample. Once at the event, both students and adults set up stations with the samples and explained their recipe to all in attendance.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We plan on hosting a new Snack Better to Feel Better Event once per month with a new snack idea each month. For example, this month was soup and salad and next month will be heritage snacks.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplished our goals by increasing the number of people in attendance of our event and we hope to steadily increase these numbers in each future event.
