Soup-er Bowl Canned Food Drive
At Abbott we hosted a Soup-er Bowl Canned Food Drive school-wide. Students were encouraged to bring in canned food to donate to help us "tackle hunger". Students collected 144 pounds of cans to donate to our local food bank. For the staff, we hosted a "Soup-er Bowl" cook-off. Thirteen soups were entered into the competition and the local police department came to vote for their favorites! This was a huge success and the food was outstanding!

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

We had 3 snow/cold days when we were supposed to have our original Soup-er Bowl. This caused us to change our Soup-er Bowl. We needed to keep the kids excited about the event and wanting to participate. We extended our event and offered incentives for students who participated!

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students and staff worked together to promote the event, pass out flyers and talk about the event school-wide. Staff assisted our Fuel Up to Play 60 team with can collection the day of the event.

How did you accomplish your goals?

While we didn't hit our goal of 800 items, it was still a successful event. The student participation was great and we were able to provide food for families in our community!
