Starting A New Trend
The Rosa Park Physical Education staff has teamed up with Fuel Up to Play 60 to help incorporate Flag Football into our curriculum. Our students have not been exposed to Flag Football due to the lack of equipment for larger class sizes. The FUTP 60 program has provided us with additional equipment to help begin our school's experience with Flag Football. Our most successful class was our 4th grade; they enjoy coming to physical education and are always asking to get a game going on. This makes my heart full because I know my students are thriving in this program and continue to make progress in their fitness goals.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I have seen students not only increase their fitness goals but have improved academically. Students have been exposed to more literature on fitness especially Flag Football. Their vocabulary has expanded far beyond my expectations and they have a new given appreciation for exercising.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We have created a tournament in Flag Football which has gotten the entire school excited. We are currently only playing the game with our 4th-7th grade classes; however, our younger grades are eager to be able to play when they get to the 4th grade. With the help of our administration staff, we have been able to award prizes to teams for their participation as well as placing in the tournament which has also gained more attention school wide.
