Starting the Grant Wood Mileage Club

We marked a 400-meter course around our outdoor space. Mileage cards were developed and our student Ambassador explained the mileage club to her grade. She wanted to start small and get students interested in walking or running during their recess time. Because of the interest, it has expanded to the next grade level. This allows the student an additional activity to do while outside for recess.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Students depend on their classroom teacher to watch as they walk or jog the course to record their laps on the mileage cards. Adults then encourage the students to continue to participate in the mileage club to increase their activity levels.
