This week we started our Kidstriders; Iowa Kidstrong program. The kids are excited for the chance to go to the Drake relays if they run 13.5 miles during Running Club. Students also have a chance to run at home with an adult or family member to score more miles. This program is free to my school and is a non-profit organization. It is an amazing program and in 2 days, my students have run up to 5 miles. I am super-excited for this year.

How did you accomplish your goals?

I was a teacher at Des Moines Public and I came to Southeast Polk. I had to reach out to the program and get all the paper work done for my school to be apart of the Kidstrider program

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

At my school we dont have a track, so I had to go out and mark out a track using landmarks and equipment. My goal is to go to PTA and talk to them about getting a track for our school.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

I have seen more students moving and interacting with their peers during their recess which is a time for these students to choose to do the running club. It is amazing to see these students choose to run and be active on their own time. I have seen my students setting goals to go to the Grand Blue Mile.
