Staying Active After your Belly is Full

Students love to be on the move and after a hearty meal, it is sometimes very hard to stay awake. In the interest of keeping them on the move, students have the option to go outside and kick/throw a ball, whether to play soccer or football. There are always students wanting to participate and just spend that extra energy. To have an activity to do during lunch period is an excellent way to keep them active and in good health. Thank you Fuel Up to Play 60.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We set out small, achievable goals for the first iteration of our plan. Everything was economically feasible and physically doable within the confines of our school and rules.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

We are incorporating the plans into our school improvement plan and using it as an extension of positive reinforcement already set in the school. The students already want to be up and about, so we reinforce good behaviors that allow them to participate in being active outside. Win-win situation for both students and faculty.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

We have noticed more students willing to collaborate and play. By having something to look forward to, the misbehavior and discipline issues have decreased considerably in the lunch room. It is all part of keeping students engaged.
