The C.G. Sivlles Elementary Fuel Up to Play 60 After School Team completed the Healthy Eating Play, Snack Smarter. The team collaborated with the food services department to use the school kitchen to make the snack, Strawberry Crunch Yogurt Parfait. The snack consisted of strawberries, plain yogurt, raw oats, raw honey, orange juice and snowflower seed kernels. The students were responsible for slicing the strawberries, marinating the strawberries in orange juice, cooking the oats to make granola and then assembling the parfaits. They began by putting a layer of granola on the bottom, next came the yogurt, then the strawberries and finally topped off with a sprinkling of sunflower seed kernels. The parfaits were a hit with the students! The team made a few extra to share with some of the faculty on campus. Each student was given a recipe to take home as well as extra recipes to share with their friends. The students liked the parfaits so much that once they handed out a few there was nothing left. Many of the team members wanted seconds. This play was a huge success!
How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?
Each team member was given several copies of the snack recipe to share with other students in the school. We will periodically through out the year make snacks that they can share recipes with their freinds.
How did students and adults work together as a team?
