This year 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students at Bussey Elementary School have been offered the opportunity to participate in the first Run Club. This program offers and encourages students an opportunity to participate in physical activity outside of the regular school day at no cost. The students have learned proper running form while participating in activities to increase their cardiovascular endurance. The Run Club takes place every Monday immediately after dismissal. The students have worked hard, and it has been a pleasure to work with them.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The Run Club meets every Monday, communicated to the parents weekly via Remind. Every week, the students do a warm-up and a new activity that promotes cardiovascular endurance. Prizes are given out as the students complete a certain number of sessions, motivating the students to continue to show up.

How did you accomplish your goals?

With the help of faculty members, I have been able to ensure the students are safe, encouraged, and getting the most out of Run Club each week. I have received activities and tips to help each student become a better runner through multiple online resources. The Student Ambassadors have helped me by suggesting activities that focus on cardiovascular endurance that could be done during Run Club.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

The students who participate in Run Club have a more positive demeanor throughout the day. They have told me they look forward to Run Club, and are curious about what activity we're going to do. I have been very encouraged to see the positive impact this program has had on the students.
