We had our 3, 4, & 5th grade students submit Healthy Snack Recipes to be chosen to be made during our annual Health Jam. We had about 20 students submit recipes and chose two winners from 3rd grade and one from 4th and one from 5th. Each of the winners made a cooking video showing how to make their recipe. The video was shown to their grade level and to a younger grade level during our Health Jam. Each student in our school had an opportunity to then make the snack themselves. The winning recipes along with six other recipes were printed in our school newspaper. The winners also were given an apron and chef hat as a prize. All the other participates were able to take home a new cooking utensil of their choice.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

The winning students and staff at our building worked together to create the cooking videos.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

By sharing recipes in our school newspaper, students will be able to go home and make the recipes again. All the recipes had to be less than 5 ingredients so it would be simple for others to make it again.

What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges we faced was some of the recipes required cooking and that was not an option during our Health Jam, so we decided to print those recipes so they could still be shared.
