Every other week, our district chef comes to our school to make smoothies at lunch time for our students during all three lunches. Chef Harbaugh allows our students to choose the flavor of the smoothies. The most popular is Blueberry Pomegranate, which he makes with locally made yogurt. The student committee members help Chef Harbaugh with serving the students at their tables. It's working with the Chef and getting our students choice in the flavor and making of the smoothies.

How did students and adults work together as a team?

Our student committee will meet every four days. The week before the smoothie sales, we discuss different types of smoothies and what fruit and vegetables go well. Our students have chosen to stay with the fruit smoothies. They work with the Chef to determine the smoothie flavor when submitting suggestions. They then make posters to advertise the smoothie date and ingredients. The students will also make announcements during the week as a reminder.

What improvements have you seen at your school?

Students feel they have a say in the lunch program. The students not in the FUTP60 committee give feedback on the smoothie. The FUTP60 committee meets with the Chef to discuss the comments and plan for the next smoothie sale.

How did you accomplish your goals?

We accomplish our goals by working with the Chef to listen to the student committee on choices of the smoothie flavor. He then assists us with nutrition information of the smoothie, making of the smoothie and ingredients so the students can share with the student population.
