I had a discussion with all 18 different classes I teach. I asked and encouraged students to sign/join the PE and Health Team at school. I explained further importance of all the programs within Fuel Up to Play 60 Healthy Eating and Physical Activity. As a result, tons of students wanted to join. I had to make a specific list of students who are now the school's PE and Health Team! We hold meetings and will continue to do so in the mornings, during lunch, or select times available during the school day. I am working on having the team meet as an after-school program as well. So far, these students have not only shown interest, but they've learned a ton about healthy eating and physical activity importance. We are making posters to put up all over the school and gym to promote healthy eating and physical activity. The students also are allowed to hold their own meetings during lunch or homeroom to talk to other students about the programs. The PTA is now getting involved to promote and help in any way possible along with vendors. I also obtained the Rutgers University Nutrition Program to come speak to our students in all grades about nutrition and the food groups. I am very pleased at how our students have responded so far!
