Student Led Fitness Breaks

Melanie Alberts,   Kate Wickham Elementary
Student Leadership

Not more than 10 minutes after we kicked off Fuel Up to Play 60 at our school, two students had already contacted their homeroom teacher and began to plan "brain breaks" in their classroom. These students have continued to lead the breaks twice a week since our initial assembly. Only recently have they come to me for help setting up their student accounts and beginning to log points. What this says to me is these students internalized the program and began to lead their class based completely on the fact they wanted to help.

How do you plan to make this Play last during the school year and beyond?

The Play will last throughout the year because the two students who are leading the breaks are committed, hardworking, and focused. Also, their classroom teacher and peers are very supportive and have bought into the breaks.
