At Boals Elementary, we have 140 third, fourth and fifth graders who participate in our 100 Mile Club. They meet each week after school to walk, jog, and run together and encourage each other to reach their goal. The students are showing responsibility by logging their miles and checking in with coaches every 25 miles logged. I just had one student who reached their goal today and they were so excited to share with me that with 10 weeks left of school, they will far exceed their goal. It's amazing to see young children learn that they can set goals for themselves and exceed them!
What improvements have you seen at your school?
I've seen students excited to be a part of a group doing something together that benefits their health.
What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
Having so many students participate in the program required me to ask for volunteers to come and supervise and be additional eyes on students after school.
